When you fly from any city to Lhasa you will need to show this permit when you check in at the airport. Furthermore, whenever you buy a flight to Lhasa you need to show this permit. TTB permits (Tibet Travel Permit/ Tibet Visa) are also needed by groups traveling by Land Cruiser. We will arrange permits of travelers travelling to Tibet.
Important Issues about Tibet Travel Permit
- All kinds of people can get Tibet permit through a travel agency except diplomats, journalists, and government officials who should travel to Tibet under the arrangement by the Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet Government.
- After having a permit, a travel agency could buy you the air tickets, and you can pass the check-in at the airport and the check point reroute with the permit.
- Only the guide could hold the permit after you establish yourself on Tibet land. You are not allowed to bring with it and travel to anywhere you want because except Lhasa you need another permit named as "Aliens’ Permit". Otherwise if you are stopped by the police you will be sent out of Tibet or have trouble politically and economically. Furthermore, the travel agency which helped to get you the permit will also be in trouble.
- Therefore seriously not any legitimate travel agency could sell you the Tibet permit if you do not book a tour with them. We don't think you would like to be in trouble due to a "sold" Tibet permit after you pay a lot of money for the tour.
- There is a service charge (by the government) to get the Tibet permit. And it takes time, paper work, transportation fee and delivery fee for us to get a permit for you, so we will charge an extra fee for the permits
Facilities : We would inform all travelers traveling in Tibet that Tibet is extremely remote isolated and least developed part of the world. It has a very history of tourism. So the facilities for tourists although being upgraded are still at basic and limited scale. Therefore the visitors are requested not have high expectation on facilities in Tibet. However, we will always put all our efforts to make your journey as pleasant as possible.
Overcoming altitude problems : Traveling in Tibet involves high altitude and could be strenuous. However most visitors have only minor effects from the altitude. We advice especially the guests with heart or lungs or blood diseases to consult their doctor before traveling. Mild headache, fever, loss of appetite or stomach disorder can take place. Our advice: Drink 4 liters of water minimum a day. Do not exhaust yourself of much and breathe deep and take rest more than usual. Bottled water is available in each hotel where you have overnight and in the restaurant en route where you have your lunch.
Landslides : As Tibet tours get opened mainly during the monsoon time; there are high chances of landslides mostly in the Nepalese part (also in the early part in Tibet). In case of landslides, to over cross them and the gap in between, extra vehicle with porters may have to be arranged. In that case, you are kindly requested to contribute nominal charges for porters and vehicle, ranging from Rs. 200 to 300 per person. We wish there will be no hassles as such.
Money : Banks in Tibet/China are closed on Saturday and Sunday. Travelers Cheques and credit cards are very difficult to be cashed outside the banks especially outside Lhasa. Exchange rate from US$ to Yuan is about 8 Yuan from 1 US$.
Guide : we always try to provide a good English Speaking Tibetan guide. However, as Tibetan guides do not get enough exposure to English Language in Tibet, please do not expect fluent and spontaneous explanation from him/her. Your frequent questioning will encourage him/her to explain well, question by question.
