Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) organised a motorcycle rally on 29th December 2010 from Thankot to Nagarkot to mark the commencement of Nepal Tourism Year 2011. Various organisations related to tour and travel industry took part in the rally.
Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang and UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the rally at Thankot today. “I hope Nepal Tourism Year 2011 attracts tourists and also help develop a new kind of political understanding among the parties,” said Dahal.
Nembang however stressed on the need of political stability for the growth of tourism industry. Senior leaders from other parties also took part in the 40-km rally to promote Nepal Tourism Year-2011.
A run-up to the actual launch in January, the rally organised by NTB and tourism industry sought support of political parties for its success.
At Kalanki Chowk, the 300 motorcyclists were greeted by president of Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala, who committed his party’s support to make NTY 2011 a success.
The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and Madheshi Janadhikar Forum Chairman Upendra Yadav and Nepal Peasants and Workers Party Chairman Narayanman Bijjukche greeted the rally at New Baneshwor, Koteshwor, and Bhaktapur, respectively.
The NTY-2011 campaign has planned to attract at least one million tourists to Nepal, the youngest republic in the world and home to eight out of ten above 8,000-metre mountain peaks in the world.
