Kakani to Bhanjyang Day Hiking

Kakani is located approximately 30 kilometers to the north of Kathmandu and it is the village with good views of the central mountain range. From Kakani you will be able to look out over Mt. Annapurna, Ganesh Himal and Mt. Dhaulagiri. The villages in the hiking trail are surrounded by a carpet of rhododendrons for most of the year which further adds to its majestic and secluded atmosphere. Early in the morning, you drive from Kathmandu to Kakani (2073m) about one and half hour. From here the trail leads to the east along graveled drivable road. The entire trail is on a level path. This is an interesting hike through oak, rhododendron and pine forest. You hike about three hours to Bhanjyang, which does include a 20 minute steep ascent before reaching the final location. After detouring around the area here, you retrace the same path back to Kakani in about two and half hours and then drive back to Kathmandu.

Phulchowki Day Hiking
Phulchowki is the highest hill in the south of Kathmandu Valley. Standing at a height of 2782 meters it is really must see especially if you would like to have a spectacular view of the Himalayas mountain range. The synonym Phul from Phulchowki means in Nepalese flower, of which there is a lot here. The hike begins after 45 minutes drive from Kathmandu to Godavari. At Godavari you are able to take a few minutes to look around the beautiful Royal Botanical Garden. Then your hiking begins that gradually takes you higher and higher up the Phulchouki hill. For four hours you are exposed to lush green sub-tropical vegetation until you get to the top of Phulchouki. Once there you can see the Buddhist shrine and enjoy the breath-taking views which are particularly stunning on a clear day. Have a lunch there then hike back to Godavari only takes two and half hour. Then take a drive to Kathmandu.

Shivapuri Day Hiking
Shivapuri situated at an elevation of 2563m and north of Kathmandu is the second highest hill around Kathmandu Valley. Bagdwar, the source of the holy river Bagmati, is located near Shivapuri. Early in the morning, you drive from Kathmandu to Muhan Pokhari for about 30 minutes. After checking the formalities at the Shivapuri entrance gate, you enter Shivapuri watershed and wildlife area. You commence your hike from the southern boundary of the area where the army check-post is located. The trail goes along the rugged but drivable road through pine and cherry forest up to Nangi Gompa within one and half hours, where a nunnery monastery is located. From here you can enjoy the beauty of snowy Himalayas such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang-Lirung, Dorji Lhakpa and you take a shortcut downhill to Budhanilkantha in about two and half hours before commencing your drive back to Kathmandu. The entire Shivapuri area is known as a protected area that is home of endangered birds and animals including leopards, jungle cats and Himalayan Black Bears. Namobouha Day Hiking
Namobuddha is situated at an elevation of 1750 m. It is one of the important Buddhist Pilgrimage which lies about 38 kilometers east of Kathmandu. The Buddhist Stupa and shrines built in this lovely little hill mark a very ancient holy site which signifies the place where a legendary prince named Mahasattva offered himself to a starving Tigress with its several underfed cubs. This legendary episode is depicted in a very nice stone slab and depicted right next to a holy Stupa. Early in the morning, you drive from Kathmandu for about one and half hours to the place called Dhapasi. From Dhapasi, your hiking trail heads northeast and the trail becomes narrow as you move further. You cross over a suspension bridge and pass through many small villages with huge rice fields, which gives you a chance to see how Nepalese People plant and harvest their crops (during the appropriate season). The trail goes steeply uphill for about an hour until reaching Namobuddha. After making some detours in and around the area here, you will drive to Kathmandu via Dhulikhel which takes about one & half hours.
