The Chitwan Jungle Safari Park is situated in the tropical and subtropical inner Terai lowlands of the southern central part of Nepal. The park consists of the Churia Hills and flood plains of the Rapti River. The floodplains of Chitwan are rich in alluvials. The park boundaries have been delineated by the Narayani and the Rapti rivers in the north and west, and the eastern border is the Parsa Wildlife Reserve. The Chitwan valley was famous for the lowlands and was exclusively managed as a hunting reserve by the Rana rulers and their members till 1950.
