The Rara to Khaptad trekking route covers two national parks, Rara and Khaptad National Park. The Rara National Park covers an area of 106 km² (41 sq m) in the Mugu and Jumla districts. It is the country’s most beautiful lake. Its main feature is Rara Lake at an altitude of 2,990 m (9,810 ft). The park contains the unique flora and fauna of the Humla–Jumla Region of Nepal.
Rara to Khaptad trekking: both national parks are surrounded by alpine vegetation and offer a variety of flora and fauna. More than 500 species of flowers, 20 species of mammals, and 214 species of birds are recorded in the Rara National Park area. Likewise, endangered red pandas, musk deer, Himalayan black bears, leopards, jackals, Himalayan tahr, yellow-throated martins, wild dogs, wild boars, common langur, rhesus macaques, etc., are possible to encounter during the trekking.
The Rara to Khaptad trekking 17 days is connected with another beautiful Khaptad National Park. Khaptad offers you a beautiful variety of landscapes, with rolling green hills, moorlands, steep slopes, and streams. 567 species of flora have been recorded in this protected area, including rhododendron forests and oak and pine forests. From the park, you can also see the Api and Saipal Himalayan ranges. This place is also known as the holy man Khaptad Baba, who meditated his entire life to get enlightened. This religious site, where Hindu pilgrims come to worship Shiva on the full moon of July–August each year, is located near the park.
Rara to Khaptad trekking goes through the remotest areas towards the Tibetan border. A journey into the Rara and the Khaptad national parks is probably the most rewarding trekking trail in the Himalayan ranges. You pass many thick forests and alpine landscapes and walk away from city life. You see only a few tourists on the way. This is a perfect trek for someone who is seeking real wilderness and adventure trekking in the Himalayas. We recommend trekking in autumn, spring, and summer. This trek is not fully accommodated by tea houses and hotels like in the Annapurna Base Camp, Everest Base Camp, and Langtang Valley treks. Some of the places require camping arrangements for lodging and food. So please contact our expert at Himalayan Smile Treks and Adventures to get factual information and prepare for the trek.
Wander around Rara Lake, Nepal’s biggest lake, it is sort of floating amid pristine forests and these really dramatic Himalayan mountain views that feel unreal.
Try trekking in remote far western Nepal, places that tourists don’t often reach, there you can meet authentic local culture , and see unsoiled wild nature without the usual crowds.
Go and explore Khaptad National Park, with sacred places nearby , gentle meadows too, plus a wide mix of plants, animals, and medicinal herbs growing there in a quiet kind of way.
Take scenic mountain flights toward Talcha and Dhangadhi, where you can look down and basically see Nepal’s rocky contrasts and varied landscapes from above, almost like a mosaic.
Stroll through traditional hamlets, step across terraced fields, and follow river valleys, all of it shows the rural far western Nepali rhythm , slow and grounded.
Choose those calm lesser visited paths, good for solitude, photography, birdwatching, and a real wilderness immersion , the kind that makes you feel you’re breathing cleaner air.
