Trek Overview

Trek Overview

The Tamang-heritage Langtang Valley Gosaikunda Pass Sundarijal Trek Route in the Langtang region, developed recently, is a newly opened trekking route in the Langtang region. This trail was developed by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program under the United Nations Development Project (UNDP). This trail begins from Sundarijal, which is 15 km from the Kathmandu Valley, and the trail offers a glimpse of the typical lifestyle and culture of mountain people called Tamang. The trail passes through traditional Tamang villages (Goljung, Gatlang, Nagthal, and Briddim), where life, culture, and crafts have remained unchanged since the beginning of the settlement.

Tamang heritage of Langtang Valley, the Gosaikunda Pass, and the Sundarijal Trek route offer a warm traditional welcome hosted by the locals; their elaborate customs, the rich architecture of their mountain houses, and the ancient monasteries and places of prayer add color to the experience of this heritage trekking. In addition to cultural experience, this trekking also offers stunning mountain views of Langtang Valley and a wilderness walking experience through beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain and rhododendron forests. A hot bath in the healing hot-water spring at Tatopani will also be an unforgettable experience of this trek.

Tamang heritage, Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda Pass, and Sundarijal Trek. Another highlight is Gosaikunda, a glacier lake; it is the most famous one, with several other glacier lakes adjoining it. It is situated at an altitude of 4,380 m in the Rasuwa District, with a surface of 13.8 lakes in Nepal’s Langtang National Park. Thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visit the lakes during a full-moon festival in August, and Hindu people believe that the god Shiva, intoxicated by grief due to his wife’s death, felt thirsty, so he hit the stone with his holy stick, thus creating the lakes. In the same place, Lake Gosaikunda originates, and Hindu people believe that the image of Shiva can be seen on the middle surface of the water. The lake is also sacred to Buddhists. Tamang heritage, Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda Pass, and the Sundarijal trek end at Sundarijal.
