Like in all Asian countries Rice is the main and major food of Nepalese people without having a plate of rice a day is like not fulfilling your day events.

Nepal grows the best rice with the flavor of strong, pure Himalayan air and perfect climate in harvesting rice, rice is grown from the sub-tropical low land of Nepal Tarai (the food basket of Nepal) to the mid hills valley up to near 2,000 meters elevation.

Rice comes in varies species the long, short, fat and made into skim (usana ko) and non skim types. The basmati, jire maseno, taichin, mansole, pokhreli are the main types of rice grown in Nepal in the shade of high Himalaya.

Rice grain are mostly consumed as normal meal boiled rice with dal, various type of lentil (soup) veg or meats curry along with pickle or acchar usually made from tomato into hot sauce with chilli, Sichuan black pepper and chili pepper.

Dal Bhat are the typical and normal meals of the Nepalese people.

Dal a lentil comes in variations black, greens, orange, and gray, yellow a smaller beans grown in the low lands and in the mid hills in warm temperatures.

The cooking process either soak for long hours to make it easier to cook or do it straight away after washing, put in a vessel or pressure cooker with clean water (as desired for number of people) salt, curry powder (turmeric) optional bay or curry leaf, little drop of mustard oil, chopped onions, garlic and ginger to make the taste even better. After boiled and cooked use a mixture (every household of Nepali has a small wooden mixture) add ghee or butter.

Along with boiled rice (bhat) comes the curry of seasonal vegetable either spinach of various types, cauliflower and potatoes are the main basic vegetable curry.

Vegetable thoroughly washed and cooked in deep fry oil, adding garlic, ginger paste with sliced onions along with dry chili or fresh green ones.

Acchar (homely tomato paste hot sauce) served in a plate with Dal, bhat and Vegetable curry.

Nepali people have meats mutton, chicken, buff (buffalo) and pork’s to fish varieties. Chicken and Goats mutton are the favorite among the Hindu people as they do not consume other animals beside mutton and chicken, fish.

Other hill tribe consumes Buff, Pork as well depending upon the area of different ethnic tribe of people.

Nepalese are fond drinking tea whether black or with milk as typical Nepali greeting ‘Chiya Khayo’ did you had tea is the popular greeting among Nepalese.

Tea comes in variation normal black or milk tea other rich variations is Masala tea with various spices like cardamom, ginger, black pepper and cinnamon powder with rich milk.

The most favorite and popular snacks and meals is Momo, although it was originated in Guangzhou, China hundreds of centuries ago traveled to Tibet and was known as Momo the Dumpling, in Chinese Dom- song.

Momo comes in variation meat, veg, cheese or plain called T-Momo  (just a steam wrapped dough)  Momos cooked steamed specially some prefers fried Momo,

Momo can be tasty depending upon the sauce taken with, mild or hot sauce of tomato with fresh coriander; some add sesame seeds and Sichuan black pepper.

Momo adds flavor with chopped onions, garlic and mince veg or meats which is the main ingredients after been wrapped with flat small dough and tapered and sealed in a decorations. Momos are best when it is served hot and steamy.

At present another type of Momo the C-Momo is getting popular among the city dwellers a normal momo dipped in a hot sauce.

In marriage and other special occasions like family, friendly, birthday, anniversary party or in festive time Nepali people have rich foods like Pilau, rich types of Dal, Vegetable along with wines and local brews to celebrate.

Other popular Nepali food beside rice is Roti (bread) chapatti simple unleavened rolled bread,  wheat or fine flour mixed in water and battered to make a dough and rolled to put in a hot pan to cook, either on hot charcoal or on hot strong pan and ready to eat and simple, favorite among the low land people.

The rich bread is Paratha comes from India, rolled dough similar process but adding ghee or butter; Paratha comes in variations stuffing potato, veg, minced meats or just plain paratha.

Beside rice for high hills and mountain people  is Daedo (a porridge type made from millet, corn flakes or just flours) which is very stuffing eaten with dry veg (Ghundruk soup) a typical Nepali dry vegetable soup with acchar and veg curry.

Other favorites of Rice variation is Chiura (beaten rice) favorite among local Newari people of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur they calls Bhaji, a simple rice cereal Chiura or Bhaji taken with curries and pickle.
