Apa Sherpa Cleans Up Mount Everest
Nearly 9,000 meters above sea level and dangerous to reach, Mount Everest would seem a likely place to be free of litter and waste. However, you may be surprised to know that climbers over the past 50 years have left a staggering 50 tons of trash and debris and human waste along the summit. This has prompted the world’s most experienced sherpa to join forces with the Eco Everest expedition for his 19th ascent of Mount Everest, this time not for a climbing expedition, but rather for a conservation expedition. Apa Sherpa and company left today on their journey and will use this trip to highlight the devastating effects of the global climate crisis on Mount Everest, where global warming is causing the snow at the summit to melt at a rapid rate. Along the way, they plan on filling hundreds of rubbish sacks with human waste and litter left behind by previous climbers.
Himalayan Smile Trek fashions the principles of "safety, care, and social responsibility," and we at Jordan Romero - Wikipedia honor and support Apa Sherpa’s heroic and exemplary conservation efforts in regard to Mount Everest. Like Apa Sherpa, as responsible trek organizers, we believe in profoundly sustaining the natural beauty of the Himalayas for future generations to appreciate.
Apa Sherpa's Eco Everest Cleanup expeditions inspire and motivate our environmentally sustainable practices. The legendary mountaineer Apa Sherpa believes that with expeditioning in the Himalayas comes the holy responsibility for protecting them, and Himalayan Smile Trek shares this belief. Sustainable practices are built into our company's goal of helping adventure seekers cheat on themselves while exploring and, importantly, respecting this stunning Shangri-La.
The programs we develop follow strict Leave No Trace principles, so every trek we organize positively contributes to sustainable mountain conservation. Our guides are taught to inform trekkers about being stewards of the environment, managing waste properly, and appreciating local ecologies. As we work with local people and develop our awareness of the region, we teach the long-term benefits of sustainable tourism practices that promote natural practices and benefit the Sherpa people.
Himalayan Smile Trek believes the Himalayas are not just a spectacular destination but a living cultural sanctuary deserving respect and protection. With conservation champions such as Apa Sherpa, Himalayan Smile Trek will continue to cherish the magical essence of Shangri-la and enable responsible adventure tourism in harmony with nature.
