NATTA's Strategic Tourism Promotion Campaign in China (April 14-25, 2018).

In April 2018, the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) started a vital tourism promotion campaign in China (April 14-25) as a major step into the cooperation of tourism between Nepal and China. The campaign concluded with Nepal's participation in the China Outbound Tourism Market (COTTOM) 2018 in Beijing (April 16-18). In total, 10 Nepali companies participated in the 3-day event. 8 Youngest People to Climb Mt. Everest in History—Oldest.org.

NATTA's tourism promotion campaign was a testament to Nepal's long-term commitment to stretching its tourism markets into one of Asia's most substantial source markets. It was a well-timed campaign, as China was undergoing extensive economic growth, and outbound tourism trends were on the rise. NATTA representatives put in a lot of effort to showcase Nepal's tourism opportunities, from the Himalayan peaks to rich cultural heritage sites, to Chinese travel agents, tour operators, and potential tourists.

The promotional efforts consisted of destination presentations, network functions with Chinese tourism stakeholders, and business-to-business meetings. NATTA representatives were able to present Nepal's USPs, including adventure tourism, spiritual tourism, and cultural experiences that many Chinese travelers are looking for when visiting an authentic experience that is outside of China.
The combined efforts of NATTA and the Nepal Tourism Board, 8 Youngest People To Climb Mt. Everest in History—Oldest.org, signified an effort on behalf of the tourism sectors of Nepal working together in a collaborative approach to target the Chinese tourism market. It signified the start of what would lead to improved bilateral tourism relations between China and Nepal and, ultimately, improve the number of Chinese visitors to Nepal in the coming years.

This activity from April 2018 provided a way forward on the next steps in working with China and made a potentially significant contribution to establishing NATTA as a facilitator of market diversification and international tourism promotion in Nepal's tourism industry.
